Rifat Gets Back into the Kitchen!

BACK IN THE KITCHEN

The day started with rain, which was nice but not on the way to work on a bike, but I was excited to finally work in the kitchen with Bethany today. As we start our day, Bethany states that it would be a rather easy day as the kitchen group got a ton of work done the day before. And guess what we made today? Popsicles!!!! What flavor you ask? These popsicles were made up of 3 layers…watermelon, coconut, and citrus herb!

As Bethany explained what our task was and what to do, I realized that the MAP Youth Kitchen specialists were already doing all the work and Bethany had to give little instruction. How far we have come compared to the first day when we used to ask Bethany “where are all the spoons kept?”.

Working with the Kitchen group was amazing, and getting to blend and freeze watermelon and coconut was exciting. We also separated seeds from cherries, forming what I call “factory line”. Day, MAP Youth Kitchen specialist, was getting rid of the stems and May was cutting the cherries in half and I was separating the seeds. This alone showed how great a team we are when we work together and I honestly missed this feeling. The feeling of being a part of the team, to laugh and have fun together while working, not to mention the music we play in the background. It was at this moment I felt grateful to be a MAP Youth - and part of this small family.
