What's Next?

By Danielle

Each week on Monday, we meet with MAP Youth as a large group (dubbed the Big Group Meeting) to build community, sharpen skills, and discuss topics with our peers. The week following the election, we had a difficult task to tackle: answer the question so many were asking -- "What's Next?"

MAP Youth (and pretty much everyone in our community) had questions about what happens next. It was time to talk. It was time to share. It was time to vent and it was definitely time to make sure everyone knew we are in this together.

MAP Youth were motivated to talk and our discussion covered a lot of ground. We started with a detail of how the electoral college works, discussed voter turnout, motivations to vote, and more. We discussed racism and bias. We went over what you can do if you see or experience racism and where you can feel safe sharing and discussing difficult issues.

I write this not so much to detail what we discussed in a very up close and personal setting, but rather to share gratitude for the mentors that help us tackle these issues. We are extremely grateful to have partners that are willing to share their thoughts with MAP Youth.

Samina Raja and Ismet Mamanoon joined our Big Group Meeting that Monday. They led a powerful discussion on "What's Next?" Their thoughts and experiences were profound and inspiring. The mentorship they offer is incredibly valuable to youth at the table.

The community we build makes us stronger. Here at MAP, we have each other's back. Thank you, Samina and Izzy for being there for MAP Youth.
