Hello, my name is Ben. I am 19 years old. I have been farming for 1 year
Sustainable farming practices are important to me because they provide us with food while sparing the environment.
My favorite part about being a farmer is working outside.
My superhero is my fencing coach.
When I'm not farming, I like to fence, walk my dog, and garden at home.
My favorite things to grow are peas. My favorite things to eat are celery and carrots.
If I could change one this about the food system it would be to make it more closely resemble a local food system.
Something you don't know about me is I am not really outgoing.
If I could tell the world one thing about what being a farmer is like it is a lot of manual labor and compost turning!
Climate change is affecting my garden through drought.
One this I'm doing to protect the environment in our garden is practice sustainable agriculture through practices like composting.
I think we need more young people involved in farming because the majority of farmers currently are again and won't be working for much longer.
One thing I'm doing to create healthy soil in my garden is composting.
The most difficult thing about sustainable farming is doing it on a large scale very efficiently.
This post is based on Food Tank's Farmer Spotlight series. We will be highlighting the young farmers working at MAP in effort to join the global conversation about farming and food.
